30 Aug Obama Favors Two Year Law Schools
As a follow-up to my post the other day, it turns out the leader of the free world agrees with me that the third year of law school either needs to change dramatically or be eliminated. He was giving a talk at Binghamton University here in New York the other day and said: “This is probably controversial to say but what the heck? I am in my second term so I can say it. Law schools would probably be wise to think about being two years instead of three years.
Let’s remember that Harvard lawyer Obama also taught law briefly in Chicago. He added: “Now, the question is can law students, can law schools maintain quality and keep good professors and sustain themselves without that third year? My suspicion is that if they thought creatively about it, they probably could,” he said.
He thought that the third year might be replaced with low paid internships, which would still be better than paying a full additional year of tuition. What do you think?
