19 Apr Judge Holds Self in Contempt
It’s good when the man in robes is true to his word. According to the ABA Journal online, Michigan judge found himself in his own hot water recently when a cellphone went off in his courtroom. It turned out it was his new phone, and he hadn’t yet figured out how to set it to vibrate.
The good judge, however, was known as a real tough guy when it came to cellphones. There are signs outside his courtroom warning any violator that they are subject to a $25 fine if a phone goes off during a hearing inside.
So what did he do? Judge Voet held himself in contempt and went down to the clerk’s office and paid his $25 fine. I guess he decided jail time was unnecessary.
