I am headed to the Windy City tomorrow to attend the annual summer conference of the Alliance of M&A Advisors (AM&AA). You can still register here: http://www.amaaonline.com/node/20083

I have been a speaker at this conference and it is always a huge success, with hundreds of guests and valuable panels. The group focuses on middle market M&A professionals. They have also been active advocates for positive legislative and administrative changes in the regulatory environment for the M&A industry. Most recently they have been working with Congress on a bill to allow M&A “brokers” or intermediaries to have a simplified registration as broker-dealers without the full-blown expensive and challenging process that “real” brokers are required to go through.
