01 Oct Flash: SEC Open During Shutdown
While always complaining about being underfunded, the staunch public servants at the US Securities and Exchange Commission will be able to stay open for a bit during the just commenced government shutdown resulting from Congress’ failure to pass appropriate spending bills. According to Time online, an SEC spokesman said they have “carryover funds” that they can use to stay open “for a few weeks.” Other agencies still open: the Post Office, the Patent & Trademark Office, and the US Passport service.
I do not comment on politics here. The hope is that both parties can look at the overwhelming public dissatisfaction with this process and find ways to keep communication lines open and meaningful to quickly resolve this incredibly frustrating impasse.
