Awesome NYC Moments

I’ve worked in Manhattan pretty much my entire law career. But I only began living here a year ago this week. I had no idea how much more there was to enjoy and appreciate in the Big Apple when you both live and work here. Here are some things you only experience as an NYC resident:

The hum of air conditioners…the movie theater with lie back seats…Midtown Comics…your feet as transportation…the uniqueness of fire escapes…scaffolding as rain protection…you’re always $5 away from a new umbrella…Insomnia cookies…Pope-lock, parade-lock, Marathon-lock, UN week-lock…hopping on the 7 train after a 5pm invite to get to Citi Field by 7pm…the joy that is the James Beard House…you know you’re out early if they haven’t even hosed down the sidewalks yet…dinner at 9:30pm…the soothing whir of early morning garbage trucks…does your umbrella go up and down or side to side to avoid others…outerwear decisions are cocktail party chatter…everything is expensive but haircuts are $14…Music under New York is just awesome…weekend traffic, street fairs and subway closings…soporific rain pelting the window air conditioners…

Things I’ve overheard in the streets after hours: “My watermelon went bad and I’m sad about that.” “Guess what Dad, Kidz Bop 30 is out!” “Then of course the agenda comes out for the sales thing like the day before.” A mover said, “Everyone on the east side has more clothes than books. Everyone on the west side has more books than clothes.” Um what about Kindle? Here’s to loving the greatest city in the world. OK back to entrepreneurship, the SEC and all that stuff!
